How much do custom bags cost? It’s the first question every buyer asks, and it’s the one most factories answer with “it depends.” But not with us here at Wuxi Environment Package Co., Ltd. because in this blog, we’ll answer it with real numbers.
We quote custom bags every day here at Wuxi Environment Package Co., Ltd. So, we pulled the prices from those quotes and put them in one table. After that, we broke down what pushes a price up or down.
By the end of this guide, you’ll know why a quote is what it is. That’s a better position than trusting whichever supplier sounds the most confident.
Why Every Factory You Contact Says “It Depends”
The problem is that “tote bag” doesn’t describe just one thing. It can be a 60 GSM non-woven bag that has a price less than a sachet of instant coffee. It can also be 16 oz canvas with a zipper, inside pocket, leather handle tabs and four-color print. Same word, ten times the price.
So, a supplier who can’t quote you from a one-line email isn’t being difficult. However, a supplier who won’t share ballpark figures at all is a different story. That’s what the next section is for.
How Much Do Custom Bags Cost? Price by Bag Type and Quantity

When you look at it and in reality, the cost will really depend on a number of factors. As a matter of fact, your initial quote might be different after a few rounds of brainstorming as you land the exact style and bag you want.
However, we present to you this table. These are typical FOB China prices for the bags we quote most often. Each line assumes a standard size, a one-color screen print on one side, and no extras.
| Bag type (standard spec) | 100 pcs | 500 pcs | 1,000 pcs | 5,000 pcs |
| Non-woven tote, 80 GSM | $0.55–0.80 | $0.35–0.55 | $0.28–0.45 | $0.20–0.35 |
| Polyester drawstring bag, 210D | $0.90–1.30 | $0.65–0.95 | $0.55–0.80 | $0.45–0.65 |
| Cotton tote, 6 oz | $1.60–2.20 | $1.20–1.70 | $1.00–1.45 | $0.85–1.20 |
| Canvas tote, 12 oz | $3.20–4.50 | $2.40–3.40 | $2.00–2.90 | $1.70–2.40 |
| Non-woven wine bag, 6 bottle | $1.40–2.00 | $1.00–1.50 | $0.85–1.25 | $0.70–1.00 |
| Non-woven garment bag, 100 GSM | $1.80–2.60 | $1.30–1.90 | $1.10–1.60 | $0.90–1.30 |
| Cotton flannel dust bag | $0.90–1.40 | $0.65–1.00 | $0.55–0.85 | $0.45–0.70 |
| Nylon laundry bag, 210D drawstring | $1.50–2.20 | $1.10–1.60 | $0.95–1.35 | $0.75–1.10 |
| Insulated cooler tote, 600D | $4.50–6.50 | $3.60–5.00 | $3.00–4.20 | $2.60–3.60 |
The low end of each range is a simple bag with a small logo. The high end has a bigger print area, a heavier fabric, or a slightly larger size. We quote per piece in US dollars, FOB Shanghai or Ningbo, so freight and duty come on top.
NOTE: If a quote you’ve received sits well below these ranges, ask what fabric weight they’re using. The cheapest way to hit a target price is to quietly drop from 80 GSM to 60 GSM. The bag looks the same in a photo. It doesn’t feel the same in the hand.
What Determines Custom Bag Pricing?
A custom bag quote is mainly built around five things: the fabric, the way the bag is made, the printing, the quantity, and any extra features you add. Some affect the price much more than others, so, let’s take a look at those factors.
Fabric Choice
Fabric is usually one of the biggest costs in the bag. As a general guide:
- Non-woven is usually among the lowest-cost options.
- Polyester often sits above non-woven.
- Cotton usually costs more again.
- Canvas, jute, and heavier fabrics are normally higher.
Fabric weight also matters. Heavier canvas bags need more material than lighter versions. Stock colors can help keep costs down. If you need an exact custom color, the factory may need to dye fabric specifically for your order.
Order Quantity
The price per bag normally drops as the order gets larger. That happens because setup work has to be done before production begins. Patterns need to be prepared. Printing needs to be set up. Samples may need approval.
Those costs are much easier to spread across 2,000 bags than 200. It’s worth asking for prices at a few quantities instead of requesting only one. You may find that moving from 800 to 1,000 pieces gives you a useful price break without ordering far more than you need.
Bag Construction
Two bags made from the same fabric can still have very different prices, and no, that’s not a coincidence. A simple flat bag is quicker and faster to make. Add more work and the sewing time starts to rise.
Common additions include:
- Gussets
- Inside pockets
- Zippers
- Extra handles
- Reinforced seams
- Hanging loops
- Base panels
Size matters too, but not only because a bigger bag uses more fabric. A slightly different width may fit the fabric roll better and create less waste. Sometimes changing the size by only a small amount can lower the cost.
Printing
Simple logos are actually cheaper to make than detailed artwork. One-color screen printing keeps the setup easy and simple. Add colors and the printer may need more screens and more passes.
For artwork with gradients, photos, or very fine details, heat transfer or digital printing may make more sense.
Before choosing the cheapest option, check whether it actually suits the artwork and fabric. A lower printing price does not help much if the logo comes out poorly.
Extra Features
This is where even the most basic bags can become expensive, and in reality, doesn’t affect the overall value.
One zipper or a few eyelets may not change the quote much. Add a lining, custom hardware, special packaging, and several other upgrades, and the difference becomes much easier to see.
Before adding extras, ask one simple question: will this feature improve how the bag is used or how it looks?
If the answer is no, it’s an easy place to save money.
Custom Tote Bag Cost Per Unit: A Worked Example

The easiest way to understand a quote is to see one. For this example, we’ll use 1,000 canvas totes. The spec is 10 oz, 38 × 42 cm, a 10 cm gusset, self-fabric handles, and a one-color print. Here’s how we’d break that down.
| Cost line | Per bag |
| Canvas fabric, 10 oz natural | $0.95 |
| Cutting and sewing | $0.55 |
| One-color screen print, one side | $0.18 |
| Handles and reinforcement | $0.12 |
| Label, folding and polybag | $0.10 |
| Quality inspection and factory overhead | $0.25 |
| FOB unit price | $2.15 |
From there, the add-ons start to move the number. A second print color adds about $0.10. Printing both sides adds $0.15. An inside patch pocket adds $0.15, a nylon zip top adds $0.25, and Pantone-dyed canvas adds $0.20 to $0.35.
If you choose all five, the same bag now costs $3.00 to $3.15. That’s why two quotes for “1,000 canvas totes” can sit a dollar apart and both be honest.
Why Cooler Bags and Wine Bags Cost More Than Totes
A tote is one fabric and a handful of seams. Cooler bags and wine bags are small pieces of engineering by comparison. And the reason why they cost more is because of the engineering; you pay for the engineering.
Cooler bag manufacturing cost comes from the layers. Typical insulated totes are usually 600D outer, PE foam, a PEVA or aluminum liner, edge binding, and a sealing zipper. That’s five materials and several extra sewing steps before the logo goes on.
Our team here at Wuxi Environment Package Co., Ltd. also leak-test every cooler bag. That’s labor a tote order never carries.
Wine bag wholesale price depends on bottle count and insulation. A six-bottle non-woven wine tote at 1,000 pieces runs $0.85 to $1.25. We stitch the dividers from the same cheap fabric. An insulated two-bottle carrier with a foam wall sits closer to $2.50 to $3.50.
Six full bottles weigh nearly 8 kg. So we reinforce the handles and the base, and that’s fabric and time.
What Costs That Aren’t in the Unit Price?
FOB prices get your bags to the port. Between the port and your warehouse, other lines appear on the invoice. In fact, it’s better to know them now than to find out how much they cost at customs.
- Pre-production sample: Usually $30 to $80 per design. We refund it against the bulk order.
- Screen or setup fee: $20 to $40 per color per print position. Most factories, us included, waive it above 1,000 pieces.
- Lab testing: If your retailer wants a REACH, CPSIA, OEKO-TEX or Prop 65 report, budget $150 to $500 per report.
- Sea freight: Roughly $0.05 to $0.30 per bag depending on volume and destination. Air runs $0.60 to $1.50 per bag or more.
- Import duty: Textile bags into the US have carried duty in the high single digits to mid-teens before added tariffs. Check the current rate for your HS code first.
- Third-party inspection: Optional, but common on a first order. Around $250 to $350 for a one-day final inspection.
Add these up and a $2.15 tote lands at $2.60 to $2.90 at your door. Compare suppliers on that landed cost, not the FOB price.
How to Bring Custom Bag Pricing Down Without Cheapening the Bag

Thinning the fabric is the easy way to cut price, and it’s the one most buyers regret. These are the moves we recommend instead.
Order at the Next Price Break
If you need 400 bags, ask for the price at 500 too. Lower unit prices can make the extra units surprisingly affordable.
Use Fewer Print Colors
One-color artwork needs less setup and fewer printing steps. Simple and bold logos can still look strong while costing less.
Split the Bag Colors
Some factories allow one order to use several stock colors if the size and artwork stay the same. This can help you reach a better quantity price without ordering one color only.
Skip Lamination When You Don’t Need It
Plain non-woven fabric already works well for many bags. Removing lamination can lower the cost when you do not need a glossy or coated finish.
Order Before Production Gets Busy
Placing the order early gives you more time and usually more production options. Rush orders and peak-season production can cost more.
